Goals
"I picked up photography as a fluke. It was my first year in college and I decided to take a basic photo class, thinking that it would be easy. After I developed my first roll of film, I fell in love with the profession, though I was not sure what I wanted to do with it. Once I interned at The Courier in Findlay, Ohio and the Daily Herald in Provo, Utah, I am now positive that telling stories with photographs is what I want to do with my life.
Arriving early and staying late is the key to making good photographs. I dig to find my own stories and cover assignments. By finding my subject’s motivations, I strive not only to capture their image, but their essence.
As a photojournalist, I have the chance to give back to the community by showing their struggles and celebrations. I get to tell their stories through photography and through shedding light on their lives, which brings them help that they might not receive any other way.
With additional photojournalism training, I can tell stories of others more effectively. I know that one of the only ways I grow, as a photojournalist, is to continue pursuing education."
